I suppose one might be asking "what the hell happened to bugsy in this past year?" being of course not molified by the short snippet about my new motherhood; kittens are currently causing havoc if you wondered. So I will give you my year in review, starting from the back-end cuse its easiest to remember.
My B-day:
This illustrious day just happened, and I hit my quarter century mark... woot! I was queen of the bar for a day, even my mother played court, and then went home when my august pressence became too much for her delicate sensibilities, or maybe her aching head :P But no worries for wave after wave of my friends bombarded me, including some surprizes, like old roomy from the cow story, and I got free beer, and free cake. I paid for my pizza tho :( Even Schmidty showed his over-gelled head in my court, and we reminised of days long past... but that is a diff story, full of sweaty men in uniform, and shouting, and shooting... and something I will share later, I promise.
So okay, b-day.... good.
Holidays (Silvester und Wiehnacht):
Sadly, I worked New Years, my current job being a "Clerks" style grunt at my local video store, and no before you ask, its not an adult video store, and no I can't give you some suggestions for porn, 'cuse you will NOT like what I recommend. This is actually my current bone to pick, my job-thing, not the recommendations-thing. I work every day, and often I have noooo idea what day it is, having nothing to say that today of all days is in fact Friday, or Sunday, for now that I no longer join my mother in the 30 min trek across the country for mass on Sunday, any day could in fact be Sunday, well except Wednesday, cuse I have plant path (read "hard class" here) then.
X-mas was good-ish. Being a normal get-together in a large heavily German Catholic family, we ate like pigs, drank like there was a shortage on beer (and wine) and made fun of each other most scathingly... and then passed out pressents. This was the fun part.
To go on, I have to backtrack a bit. I now live with my mum, which is not really as bad as it sounds, yes I know I'm twenty five, but she works out of state for five days out of week, so she's hardly home. And she gets lonely. And she had a stroke, a mild one, years ago mind you, but she still needs scraping off the sidewalk randomly, every now and then, so she is really happy to have me around. I love my mum, and she's not around enough for the big clashes to bubble and boil. It works out pretty well, except for two things.
I have kittens.
My sister is allergic to kittens/cats/dust/me/family.... well you get the picture.
Now my sister is of course staying with us, because she's a poor, starving musician/artist; she fiddles in three different local bands in her chosen town of Ames, Iowa, as well as being a crazy artist. I can't very well make her stay at a hotel, now can I? Its a family event, and my kittens dont quite count as family.
SO little Basho and qeylar get boarded... with a friend, but come home sick, and although they have better health insurance than I do it still costs me a pretty penny, but on the bright side, the vet tech is cute, and this gave me an opportunity to chat him up. Dog owner... sigh.
And the score for my holidays? mas o menos. Mostly menos.
The Growing Season:
When I say this, you must understand as a seasonal groundsworker/landscaper, I mean a time period roughly between late winter, and early winter, in otherwords, when the ground isn't frozen. Spring is a crazy time, even before things start coming up out of the ground, if you ignore the early bulbs, leaves left over from fall to blow, ornimental grasses to cut back, perenials to divide. Then things start growing.... and you, by that I mean me, don't stop moving/planting/mowing/watering/weeding until the leaves start to fall again, and then its back to cleaning up leaves, and cutting stuff back, and putting everything to bed for the brief span of Chicagoland winter.
This is the time when I have a job.
Last year's season was just about the best I've had. I learned sooo much, I gained some great friends, got my babies... and man do I have some crazy stories to tell, but it was hell on my social life. And I can't wait to start again! Just a few more weeks and I'll be back to doing what I love. Not this humdrum mediocre limbo in which I now exist. Blah.
